Let's not sugarcoat it. The story of North American hunter numbers is basically a downer.
However, there's a bright spot in this otherwise-bleak tale, and that is the rise of women hunters. Historically, women made up 5 to 10 percent of all hunters in the US. That number is steadily increasing, and some estimates now place it between 12 and 15 percent. This article from Wisconsin Natural Resources magazine (https://dnr.wisconsin.gov/wnrmag/2020/Fall/WomenHunters) presents stories of various Badger women hunters--many of whom learned through partner programs such as NWTF's Women in the Outdoors and WDNR's Learn to Hunt and Hunt for Food. Want to get involved? Contact NWTF R3 Coordinator John Motoviloff. While Learn to Hunts are postponed through the end of 2020 because of COVID-19, we are building a database of volunteer mentors and instructors. Now is a great time to learn about and get involved with these programs! 608 419 0041 [email protected] |
